Billing

serverless.au is prepaid and billed by the second, in Australian dollars. Current rates are on the pricing page; every price includes GST.

How the meter works

  • A pod is charged its shape's hourly price while its container is running, at the price when the pod was created.
  • The meter runs every minute and charges to the second. When a pod stops, the last partial minute is charged.
  • Pulling images is free. Stopped pods cost nothing.
  • A service is billed per replica, the same way. At zero replicas it costs nothing.
  • CPU burst above your shape is free.
  • A pod's boot disk is included in its price. Network volumes are charged by the hour for the data they hold, at the price on the pricing page.

Balance rules

  • To start a pod, your balance must cover at least ten minutes of it.
  • Under ten minutes of runway, every serverless.au command shows a warning.
  • We email your account's owners and admins when your credit has about 3 days left at the current rate, again at about a day, and when it runs out.
  • At A$0, running pods get five minutes of grace, then stop with reason insufficient_funds. We email you the list of pods that stopped. Services are suspended and start again on their next request once you add credit.

Adding credit and GST

Pay by card from the terminal:

svl topup 50 # opens Stripe's payment page; A$10 to A$5,000
svl topup auto --below 10 --amount 50 # charge your saved card when you run low
svl topup auto off

svl topup saves the card you pay with for auto top-ups. If an auto top-up is declined we email you and try again the next day. For bank transfers or larger amounts, email gc@theitdept.au.

Credit is in Australian dollars and GST is charged when you buy it: pay A$110 and you get A$110 of credit, which includes A$10 of GST. Your tax invoice from The IT Dept Pty Ltd (ABN 12 665 405 505) is emailed to your account's owners and admins, and svl invoices lists them. Prices on the pricing page include GST, so credit is spent at exactly those prices.

Free credit (vouchers, or credit we add as a goodwill gesture) has no GST and no invoice.

Emails

Billing and security emails always come. Emails about your workloads can be turned off. These cover failed pods, routes that are down, and domains going live or failing.

Vouchers

A voucher adds a fixed amount of credit to your account. Redeem one at signup (serverless.au asks once your details are complete, or use svl login --voucher <code>), or any time after:

svl voucher redeem WELCOME
  • Credit goes to your current account (--account <slug> picks another one you belong to).
  • Each voucher works once per account and once per person, even if you belong to several accounts.
  • Your account needs its details completed first (svl account complete).
  • Vouchers can have a limited number of uses or an expiry date. If one has run out, serverless.au tells you.
